Kelly JIN MEI (b. 1991, Singapore), formerly known as Kelly Limerick, is a visual artist working primarily in crochet and knit, both of which she picked up in 1997. She explores themes of identity, ownership and duality in her practice, often employing destruction as a secondary technique in three ways— disintegration, transformation and revocation. Working in a variety of formats ranging from sculpture to multi-media installations, she has exhibited at the 18th International Triennial of Textiles (Poland), #4 Objet Textile Biennale (France), and been commissioned by brands like Bloomberg and GUCCI, for which she created their first in-store artwall display in South Asia Pacific. She has participated in artist residencies such as LOHJINAWI (Indonesia), La Wayaka Current (Chile), and Art Ripple Taitung (Taiwan).
Jin Mei has appeared in campaigns promoting Singaporean art, been profiled by media such as Harper’s Bazaar (SG) and listed in Prestige (SG)’s 40 under 40. She has been invited to speak both locally and abroad about her art, which is studied in the Singaporean public primary school Art curriculum. She is co-founder of School of Common Understanding, a skill-sharing collective built on inter-disciplinary collaboration, leading to recent ventures into exhibition production.
Jin Mei holds a Diploma in Apparel Design (2008-2011).
